Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to your PrivateStay account. When enabled, signing in requires both your password and a time-based code from an authenticator app.
What you need
An authenticator app installed on your phone. Popular options:
- Google Authenticator
- Authy
- 1Password
- Apple Passwords (built into iOS 18+)
- Any other TOTP-compatible app
Enable 2FA
- Go to Dashboard → Account → Security
- Click Enable two-factor authentication
- Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code displayed
- Enter the six-digit code from your app to verify the setup
- 2FA is now active on your account
Signing in with 2FA enabled
After entering your email and password, you will be prompted for a verification code. Open your authenticator app, find the PrivateStay entry, and enter the current six-digit code. Codes change every 30 seconds.
Backup codes
Warning
When you enable 2FA, save your backup codes in a safe place. If you lose access to your authenticator app and do not have backup codes, you will be locked out of your account and will need to contact support to regain access.
Backup codes are shown once when you set up 2FA. Store them in a password manager, printed document, or other secure location — not on the same device as your authenticator app.
Disable 2FA
- Go to Dashboard → Account → Security
- Click Disable two-factor authentication
- Enter your current authenticator code to confirm
